Welcome to The Trooper; a hotel, restaurant and bar in one of the finest old coaching inns in Hampshire. Stay in our comfortable and luxuriously appointed hotel rooms for a perfect night’s sleep at the best rates. Ideal for business or holiday travel, or a weekend retreat on the South Downs, the Trooper is perfectly situated close to Petersfield and the A3, giving ideal access to Guildford & London and Portsmouth & the south coast.
Our beautiful restaurant is perfect for any occasion, from a midweek treat to a romantic dinner or that big celebration! Our food is the best of British, produced with passion by our talented chefs using the best quality (and wherever possible) local ingredients.
And our warm and friendly bar is the perfect place to socialise and relax. Enjoy the very best real ales, wines and whiskies around a roaring fireplace in the winter months, or in summer, out on our beautiful patio and garden with sweeping views from our perch at the highest point Hampshire!
We offer a warm welcome to local diners and both business and leisure travellers.
We are now a totally non-smoking establishment!
We have a large, private car park for guests and patrons.

Another Bank Holiday Weekend is upon us – let’s hope the weather is anything but traditional!
It’s PFest this Saturday evening – 7 hours of live music from 4pm-11.30pm at Penns Place. We’ll be manning a food outlet serving up Moroccan Chicken Flatbreads or Falafel Flatbreads – so do drop by and say Hi if you’re at the festival.
The Twentieth Petersfield Pub Sevens Tournament is on Sunday – we’re so proud to have been sponsoring this event for 18 of those years and we’ll be there again this year cheering everyone on!
Our Bank Holiday Opening Hours are:
Sunday: Last Orders for Food will be taken at 1.30pm lunchtime (in order to allow us to get down to the Rugby) – we are closed in the evening.
Bank Holiday Monday: We will be open for lunch and closed in the evening.
Back to normal on Tuesday!
Have a great Bank Holiday Weekend and we hope to see you at The Top of The Hill!
On Thursday 14 April from 7pm Hawthorn’s Gin will be here to let you sample their lovely gin and perhaps rustle up the odd gin cocktail!
It’s also the first Classic Car meet since the clocks changed so here’s hoping the weather stays fine for a nice turnout of beautiful old cars!
See you there for a sundowner!
…. this weekend – watch out for more Moroccan dishes appearing on our menu over the next few days!
We’re really excited to welcome our new Moroccan chef, Saida, to the top of the hill.
Join us this weekend for delicious and authentic Moroccan specials!
